Champions League of Darts

The Darts champions league is back upon us on Saturday 16th September The top 7 players on the PDC order of Merit following the 2017 World match play qualified. Reigning champion Phil Taylor was given a guaranteed place in the tournament, as will each winner of the tournament in future. Taylor was also one of the Top 7 players, the eighth ranked player also qualified, So Raymond Van Barneveld luckily qualified. The champions league is split into two groups of four with each player playing each other in the group and the top two players going through to the semi-finals. Group games will be first to 10 (Best out of 19) and if you win the game you will receive 2points.

Michael Van Gerwen goes into the Champions league as pre-tournament favourite but he recently he has not shown the quality that we know and love, He has been drawn in the group with Taylor, Lewis and Barney so plenty of competition in Group A and Group B has Anderson, Wright, Chisnall and Mensur Suljovic, This is the the Austrians first Champions league tournament and he will be looking to make an impact. The tournament last year was BBC’s first Televised event. ‘Last year’s Champions League of Darts was a massive success on the BBC and this line-up sets the pulses racing ahead of September’s tournament,” said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

Phil Taylor’s class win in his final World Matchplay last tournament was a massive boost for him, and his win over Michael van Gerwen has spiced up their rivalry ahead of the Champions League where the pair will play in the group and then could meet again in the final. This is why we will be tipping Phil The Power to reign in the champions league again. He is the form man and 6/1 looks a great price for him. We think Gary Anderson is currently playing well and are expecting him to have a good tournament and top group B. Question will be asked this tournament of Wright, Chizzy and if Mensur Suljovic can hold his own against the big boys.
