US PGA Championship 2017 Preview

The final major of 2016/2017 is just round the corner and it promises to be a very exciting one! This is the 99th PGA Championship and will take place at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina. This is the first ever time a major championship will be held on this course. Rory McIlroy has been installed as a best priced 8/1 favourite on a course he considers his ‘home’. Other notable favourites are last weekends PGA Tour winner Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson and recent Major winner Jordan Spieth. McIlroy could be considered as being a slight false favourite as it’s unlikely he would be favourite if the competition was to be held at any other course. For this weeks tournament, we will have one main win bet, two big priced each way fancies and one bet in the special markets.

Our main ‘Win’ bet this week is last weeks winner – Hideki Matsuyama. For a long time, a first major has eluded Matsuyama but we think this week he can finally win his first. The 25 year old was in absolute scintillating form to win the WGC Bridgestone Invitational by a staggering five shots last week, and he can continue this great form. The WGC Invitational can be seen as the natural stepping stone for players on the way to their first majors. This was the route taken by Dustin Johnson, who won two WGC’s before winning his first major. Matsuyama was ranked first for greens in regulation last week, and this along with his excellent driving and putting should stand him in good stead.

Hideki Matsuyama to win (Best priced at 11/1 on BetBright) – BET HERE

Our first big priced each way bet is Kevin Chappell – Chappell won his first PGA tour event in April and has since shown promise he can go one further and challenge for a major. He has the potential to go very well at a big price. He already has two top 10 finishes in majors (2011 and 2012) and has course form, having managed two top 20 finishes in tournaments at Quail Hollow.

Kevin Chappell to win (Best priced at 80/1 on 188Bet) – BET HERE

Our second big priced each way bet is Brian Harman. Harman seems very overpriced at 150/1 considering he has had 7 out of 19 Top 10 finishes this year and a 2nd in the US Open in the bag. He is a solid player and ranked 29th in the World. He has the potential to outplay his price. We will also back him for a Top 10 finish at 14/1.
