Cincinnati Bengals v Houston Texans – 15/09/2017

In the first game of week two of the 2017 NFL season the Houston Texans travel to the Cincinnati Bengals. Kick off is 1.25AM Friday morning UK time. The last time the Texans travelled to the Bengals they left with the points in a narrow 6-10 win in front of a crowd of 60,000 fans.

Cincinnati had the worst start they could of asked for in week one, thrashed 20-0 in a shut-out defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens. They will be hoping to rectify that loss this Thursday night when they take on Houston. Quarterback Andy Dalton was absolutely destroyed in the season opener, throwing four interceptions and was even heckled off the pitch by his own fans. The good news for Bengals fans is that star cornerback Adam Jones was back at practice this week and a roster spot awaits him following his suspension due to an arrest back in January. Jones’ reintroduction should ignite a fire in a defence that needs improve massively, points were far too easy to gain for the Ravens last week.

The Houston Texans also had a bad start to the season going down 7-29 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. After both Tom Savage and DeShaun Watson struggled in that defeat, head coach Bill O’Brien has a very big choice to make going into the Thursday night game against the Bengals, whether to go with the struggling Savage or risk rookie Watson. A sign may be that O’Brien benched Savage early on with the young stalwart finding a target for a touchdown in just his second play in the NFL. Optimism ran high for a short while, but he then faded under pressure in the pocket as the Jaguars defence brought in the backfield and turned up the heat, he ended up finishing just 12 of 23 for 102 yards.

With both sides being so underwhelming in week 2, this will be one of the least viewed Thursday Night Football clashes of the season. The Texans do look to be in a predicament with up to five starters unlikely to be playing as the short game week certainly seems to be playing into Bengals. We fancy a low scoring game with Cincinnati Bengals coming out on top, expect them to cover the spread and the points to fly in well under the set total.
